Big Week

This has been a good week for the Northeast Alabama Alumni Association. There are a couple things to report.

First: We have surpassed the total of 12 signatures required on our petition. Thirteen brothers now have signed on. That's a big hurdle cleared.

Second: We got a visit this week from Province 34 Governor Tony Cowan, who must approve our petition before it goes to Lyrecrest. Eight of us had dinner with him Friday in Jacksonville. He is very enthusiastic, and wants our application ASAP.

Next, a couple of things for the near future:

1) At the end of the month we will hand the petition over to Tony. A number of brothers have expressed interest but have not yet attended a function. If they want to join us as charter members of the association, now is the time. I'll be contacting them soon, but you can help: Let any area alumni who want to sign our petition know to contact me by Jan. 29. Be sure to let them know about the $10 initial membership fee. (Of course, they can always join later. But if they want to be part of the charter group, now is the time.)

2) About that fee ... We must submit $100 with our petition. Seven of the 13 brothers so far have paid their $10 share. If you haven't paid your share please see me or Gary Lewis very soon.

3) We plan to present the petition to Tony at the Province 34 Workshop in Auburn, Jan. 30-Feb. 1. A few of us so far plan to be there, representing the province's first alumni association. This should be a fun trip, and a good chance to get together. If you'd like to come along, let me know. I'll provide more details as the date gets closer.

4) Our next monthly meeting will be Saturday, Feb. 7, tentatively set for 1 p.m. at my house, 812 12th Ave. NE in Jacksonville. We'll grill out and then get down to business. (We'll vary the day, time and location of meetings regularly, but they'll always be around the first weekend of each month.)

Thanks to everyone for your enthusiasm and your help. This is the beginning of a future full of good things.
