Once a Sinfonian, Always a Sinfonian

We're a group of alumni Sinfonians - brothers of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity in the Alabama counties of Calhoun, Etowah, Cherokee, Cleburne, Randolph, Clay & Talladega.- coming together for music, fellowship and fraternity. Live nearby? Join us!

December meeting

Our next monthly meeting will be Friday, Dec. 4, 2009 at 7 p.m. at The Vault Deli & Pub, on the Square in Jacksonville. Whether you've been with us since the beginning or are looking for a chance to see what we're all about, we hope you'll join us.

It's important for all members to attend this month, as we'll share details of an exciting program the Northeast Alabama Alumni Association will undertake in April. We look forward to seeing you.

November meeting

Our next meeting will be Saturday, Nov. 7 at 6 p.m. at the home of Bro. Herbert Canada, at 1436 Nocoseka Trail, Apt B4 in Anniston. To get there, turn from South Quintard Avenue onto Greenbrier-Dear Road toward Golden Springs. Once you reach the top of the hill, the turn for Indian Hills Apartments will be on your right. Click here for a map of the location. See you there!

October meeting

Our next meeting will be Saturday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. at The Vault Deli & Pub, on the Square in Jacksonville. Meeting on a Saturday night ought to give brothers who are teaching high school marching bands a chance to attend. Please spread the word to local Sinfonian band directors. Also, this meeting will begin about three hours after Jacksonville State's first home football game concludes. If you're coming to the game, plan to join us afterward.

September meeting

Our next monthly meeting will be Friday, Sept. 4, 2009 at 7 p.m. at The Vault Deli & Pub, on the Square in Jacksonville. If you've not joined us before, why not come out for dinner, fellowship and a song or two? Grab another brother who hasn't attended yet and bring him along. See you there.

August meeting

Our meeting for August will actually take place in July. It's set for Friday, July 31 at 7 p.m. at The Vault Deli & Pub on the Square in Jacksonville. This event is your last chance to be listed on the membership roster for 2009. Of course, if you can't be there, come next time anyway - that'll be your first chance to get on the membership roster for 2010!

It's official!

The Northeast Alabama Alumni Association of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity was chartered March 9, 2009, when the fraternity's Commission on Standards approved our petition.

Congratulations to the brothers who have worked toward this over the last year. Now is no time to rest, however; there is much work ahead. Together, we will accomplish great things.

Once a Sinfonian, Always a Sinfonian. Long Live Sinfonia!

Big Week

This has been a good week for the Northeast Alabama Alumni Association. There are a couple things to report.

First: We have surpassed the total of 12 signatures required on our petition. Thirteen brothers now have signed on. That's a big hurdle cleared.

Second: We got a visit this week from Province 34 Governor Tony Cowan, who must approve our petition before it goes to Lyrecrest. Eight of us had dinner with him Friday in Jacksonville. He is very enthusiastic, and wants our application ASAP.

Next, a couple of things for the near future:

1) At the end of the month we will hand the petition over to Tony. A number of brothers have expressed interest but have not yet attended a function. If they want to join us as charter members of the association, now is the time. I'll be contacting them soon, but you can help: Let any area alumni who want to sign our petition know to contact me by Jan. 29. Be sure to let them know about the $10 initial membership fee. (Of course, they can always join later. But if they want to be part of the charter group, now is the time.)

2) About that fee ... We must submit $100 with our petition. Seven of the 13 brothers so far have paid their $10 share. If you haven't paid your share please see me or Gary Lewis very soon.

3) We plan to present the petition to Tony at the Province 34 Workshop in Auburn, Jan. 30-Feb. 1. A few of us so far plan to be there, representing the province's first alumni association. This should be a fun trip, and a good chance to get together. If you'd like to come along, let me know. I'll provide more details as the date gets closer.

4) Our next monthly meeting will be Saturday, Feb. 7, tentatively set for 1 p.m. at my house, 812 12th Ave. NE in Jacksonville. We'll grill out and then get down to business. (We'll vary the day, time and location of meetings regularly, but they'll always be around the first weekend of each month.)

Thanks to everyone for your enthusiasm and your help. This is the beginning of a future full of good things.

Province governor visiting

Province 34 Governor Tony Cowan will be in Jacksonville this week, and he wants to meet with members of the Northeast Alabama Alumni Association while he's here.

We'll get together Friday night, Jan. 9 for an informal gathering, 6 p.m. at the Vault, on Jacksonville's Public Square. Join us if you can.
